Sensor-controlled lighting

Light that responds to
people and daylight.

With sensor-controlled lighting, sensors decide whether a luminaire is on, dimmed or off. We design and install it for offices, halls and warehouses – including on your existing LED luminaires.

IFS105SE occupancy and daylight sensor

How it works

What sensor-controlled lighting does

An occupancy sensor detects whether someone is moving in the area – PIR sensors via thermal radiation, microwave sensors via reflected radio waves. A daylight sensor measures how bright it already is. From both, the sensor controls the luminaire via the driver's dimming input (0-10 V or DALI):

  • Someone present, little daylight: full or set brightness.
  • Someone present, plenty of daylight: the luminaire dims back.
  • Nobody present: background level after the hold time, later off.

Because every luminaire with a sensor is part of a Bluetooth Mesh network, neighbouring luminaires work together: when someone enters an aisle, the next luminaires come on too. Background light, groups and hold times are set in an app.

Which sensor type fits where is explained in PIR, ultrasonic & microwave and Presence vs. motion detectors.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about sensor-controlled lighting

What is the difference between sensor-controlled and smart lighting?

Sensor control is the core: light responds to occupancy and daylight. Smart lighting adds networking, app-based management and monitoring data – which is how we deliver every project.

Can sensor-controlled lighting be retrofitted?

Yes, on LED luminaires with a dimmable 0-10 V or DALI driver. How we check and implement it is described under Retrofit.

How many sensors do I need?

That depends on mounting height and room shape. The grid planner gives a first estimate; we do the detailed planning in Sensora.
